So how does solar energy work?

 

Solar power is the result of converting the sun’s rays to energy. Sunlight is gathered two ways; Photovoltaic (PV) solar panels that convert sunlight to energy or Solar Thermal collectors use the sun’s rays to harness the sun’s heat.

• The ideal roof for a PV Solar System should have a south-facing slope that isn’t blocked by trees or other buildings.

Solar thermal harness and hot water tank

Solar thermal harnesses the radiation of the sun to heat water or air for a variety of uses including domestic hot water, pool heating, radiant floor heating, and space heating. Solar thermal has evolved to become one of the most effective “green” technologies available for businesses, institutions, homes and any facility that use hot water and/or heat. Heating uses a lot of energy; in fact 20 to 30% of residential energy consumption is attributed to hot water heating. Solar water heating can reduce that cost by approximately 50%, savings.

 

Solar Tubes

A solar tube is a lighting system where solar light is captured through a relatively small clear dome above the roof and transferred through a highly reflective tube to a ceiling light fixture and into a room. Solar tubes have a standard size of 11 1/2" and will light an area up to 100 square feet. Solar tubes are more efficient than a typical skylight, because skylights capture sunlight only at certain angles and times in the day. A solar tube can capture sunlight at any angle ortime of day.

 

Solar Attic Fans

Solar attic fans are used to reduce the cooling load on A/c units and operate solely on on free solar energy. They typically come with adjustable panels to compensate for any pitch of roof and are typically made of powder coated aircraft grade aluminum.
